Move over Agatha Christie, there’s brand a new court case in town as Liv Hennessy adapts the now infamous Vardy v. Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial for the London stage one night only in the West End.
Using transcripts from the high profile court case, the play is set to reveal what really went on between football WAGs Colleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy, and how the court case blended social media and soap opera becoming messier by the day. According to press material for the forthcoming production, “audiences will see first-hand, and in the words of Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney, how the extraordinary week in court played out.”
Lisa Spirling will direct Vardy v. Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial and commented on the production, stating “This trial asks key questions about the complex boundaries between privacy and celebrity in modern Britain and what it is to be a so-called ‘WAG’. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Eleanor, Eilene and Liv to bring this extraordinary court room script to life”.
Further details on the venue and casting is set to be revealed in due course. 'Wagatha Christie' is the nickname earned by Colleen Rooney for her efforts in tracking down and eventually accusing Rebekah Vardy of leaking posts from her private Instagram account to the national press. The 'Wagatha Christie' nickname is after the famous murder mystery and crime writer Agatha Christie whose stories The Mousetrap and Witness for the Prosecution both showcase in the West End.
