Steven Moffat’s debut play, The Unfriend is set to transfer into the West End in 2023 following performances at Chichester Festival Theatre. The Unfriend will begin previews at the Criterion Theatre on January 15th, ahead of an official opening night on January 19th. Performances are due to run until April 16th.
The plot of The Unfriend follows Debbie and Peter as they somewhat begrudgingly welcome Elsa, an American they made friends with while on holiday into their home. What began as a holiday friendship however, could now actually turn out to be a murderous threat.
The Unfriend is the first theatrical collaboration between director Mark Gatiss and playwright Steven Moffat since Sherlock and Dracula.
Speaking about the production, Moffat said “I am beyond thrilled that The Unfriend is going to the West End. Working on this show with my old friend, Mark, and my new friends, the amazing cast and crew, has been one of the happiest experiences of my professional life. They’ve all been very kind to a beginner,”
The West End cast for The Unfriend cast will feature: Reece Shearsmith, Maddie Holliday, Amanda Abbington, Michael Simkins, Frances Barber, Marcus Onilude, and Gabriel Howell.
The creative team behind The Unfriend features design by Robert Jones, lighting design by Mark Henderson, and sound design by Ella Wahlström.
Booking & Theatre Info For The Unfriend
Performances of The Unfriend will begin at the Criterion Theatre on January 15th, 2023. The Criterion Theatre is situated in the very heart of the West End in Piccadilly Circus and has three levels with premium seating being in the centre of the Stalls section and also at the front of the Dress Circle. There are multiple price bands within the venue which also has a number of sections on all levels that have minor restrictions to the view of the stage so studying the seating plan is recommended prior to purchase. Due to the restrictions in certain areas of the venue coupled with the cut off points from the different price bands there is definitely scope for patrons to secure bargains if looking for lastminute theatre tickets for productions at the Criterion when there are no official discounts available. Prices can also fluctuate dynamically during both busy and quiet periods in the West End and theatregoers can benefit financially by looking at the weeks following school holidays or other traditionally quiet periods to secure the best deals.
