Cabaret is set in Berlin during the early 1930s and follows American writer Cliff Bradshaw who meets English cabaret singer Sally Bowles, a regular performer at the 'Kit Kat Club' just as the rise and influence of Nazism is beginning to creep in and affect all aspects of life in the city and threatens this hedonistic haven leftover from the Weimar Republic.
