Gavin and Stacey star, Ruth Jones is set to make her debut in the West End as Mother Superior in the much-anticipated forthcoming revival of Sister Act at London's Dominion Theatre in 2024.
Ruth Jones will join Olivier Award-winner Beverly Knight in the production which will run from 15th March 2024 to 31th August 2024.
Speaking in a statement about the appointment, Jones commented: “I’m proper chuffed to be making my West End debut in Sister Act next March playing the legendary Mother Superior at the Dominion Theatre. It’s a crackin’ role and a crackin’ show. Who knew wearing a habit could feel so fabulous? I can’t wait!”
Best known for her role in the popular BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey, Jones will star as Mother Superior from 15th March to 8th June only, alongside Knight, who will play nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier. From 10th June to 31st August, former X Factor star Alexandra Burke will take over the role of Deloris Van Cartier.
The award-winning musical returns to the capital following a successful season in 2022 at the Eventim Apollo and is based on the much-loved movie, as it follows the fortunes of lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier as she finds herself in a witness protection program and placed in a convent. Disguised as a nun and under the watchful and suspicious eye of the Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voice.
