‘Mrs Doubtfire’ Musical To Open In West West End In 2023

Hello, poppets! get ready for the opening of what promises to be the most hilarious musical in the West End in 2023 as Mrs. Doubtfire will begin performances at the Shaftesbury Theatre on May 12th, ahead of an scheduled opening night on June 22nd.

Based on Anne Fine’s 1987 novel, and the 1993 Mrs. Doubtfire movie starring Robin Williams, Mrs. Doubtfire follows the fortunes of newly divorced out-of-work actor, Daniel Hillard who, after losing custody of his children disguises himself as ‘Euphegenia Doubtfire’ to work in his ex-wife’s home to be close to his children.

The Mrs. Doubtfire musical premiered in Seattle in 2019, ahead of a transfer to Broadway at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in 2020 where it played 43 previews and 83 regular performances, with lead actor Rob McClure receiving a nomination for a Tony Award for ‘Best Actor in a Musical’.

Mrs. Doubtfire played a four week season at the Manchester’s Opera House and features a talented cast that includes Gabriel Vick as Daniel Hillard, Dominic Andersen as Stuart, Cameron Blakely as Frank Hillard, Carla Dixon Hernandez as Lydia Hillard, Marcus Collins as Andre, Joshua Dever, Samuel Wilson-Freeman, Paulo Teixeira, Ellie Mitchell, Maria Garrett, Kiera Haynes, Tom Scanlon, Adam Lyons, Lisa Mathieson, Matt Overfield, Vicki Lee Taylor and Rebecca Donnelly, and Amy Everett. Full casting will be revealed in due course.

Mrs. Doubtfire features a story by Wayne Kirkpatrick, John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick. Jerry Zaks directs the production, with sound design by Brian Ronan, set design by David Korins, choreography by Lorin Latarro, costume design Catherine Zuber, and lighting design by Philip S Rosenberg.

Mrs Doubtfire will open at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2023.  The Shaftesbury Theatre is a medium size venue that has three levels of seating and a capacity of 1408 seats. The front of the Stalls has a corridor through the middle which splits it into two sections, with another two aisles splitting the rear into a further three. Both the elevated sections of the Royal and Grand Circles have some seats which have some minor restrictions to the view of the back of the stage which can be be slightly obscured so studying the seating plan prior to booking tickets is recommended.

Premium seats are located in the centre of rows D-H of the Stalls which offer the best overall experience giving you clear views of the entire stage. The middle of rows A-D of the Royal Circle also offer great elevated views of the stage.
