After a short run at the Park Theatre, Martin Sherman’s play Rose will play a limited West End season of 28 performances. Rose will star two-time Olivier Award-winning actress Maureen Lipman and will begin previews at the Ambassadors Theatre on May 23rd, ahead of an official opening night on May 26th, and performances running until June 18th.
The plot of Rose follows a Jewish woman of the same name who grows up in Ukraine, and after fleeing Nazi-occupied Warsaw, settles down for a new life in the United States.
Commenting on her new appointment, Lipman said: “I am delighted to be putting Rose back on her bench for a limited run at the Ambassadors in May. I thought I could never have the power to revisit Martin Sherman’s mystical, magical deeply philosophical, and wildly funny creation, but Rose is in my blood and she has to be revived."
Playwright Martin Sherman stated: “Maureen Lipman’s performance as Rose is the greatest gift a playwright could ever dream of. Performance is perhaps the wrong word; she totally inhabits the role, the woman, the space, the language, the times, and the events. I’m so happy that her astonishing alchemy has the opportunity to be witnessed again”.
Rose will be directed by Scott Le Crass and features design by David Shields, sound design by Julian Star, and lighting design by Jane Lalljee.
Booking & Theatre Info For Rose
The Ambassadors Theatre is a small West End venue with a capacity of 410 seats on two levels. Premium seats in the theatre are located in the front two rows of the Circle, and the centre of the Stalls with great views between seats 6-12 in rows D-G.
Due to the intimacy of the venue, lastminute bargain hunters can get great value from the back row of the Circle which offers a great view of the stage. The overhang from the Circle does encroach on the rear seats in the Stalls, meaning the back rows do have a slightly restricted view which should reflect in the price of the ticket.
Patrons on a budget can find good value for Rose tickets in the last four rows of the Circle from H to L which are often discounted but still offer a great view of the stage and have good legroom.
