The Great Gatsby In London Announces Lead Casting

The lead cast has been revealed for the Broadway transfer of The Great Gatsby, which will open at the London Coliseum in the West End on April 11th and showcase for a limited season until September 7th.

The role of Jay Gatsby will be taken by Jamie Muscato whose previous theatre credits include Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 at the Donmar Warehouse, as well as Moulin Rouge!, Les Misérables The Staged Concert, Once, and Heathers The Musical.

Frances Mayli McCann will join Muscato in the show in the role of Daisy Buchanan. Her previous stage appearances include Bonnie and Clyde, Death Note, Chess, Heathers The Musical, Evita, and Les Misérables (UK Tour).

The stage production of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel opened in April 2024 on Broadway with Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada in the lead roles. The story follows Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire, who throws wild, hedonistic parties, but really, pines for only one thing — to reunite with old flame Daisy Buchanan.

Muscato commented on the appointment, saying: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be stepping into the shoes of Jay Gatsby — a character so full of mystery, passion, and longing. Bringing this iconic role to life on the West End is an incredible honour, and I can’t wait to share this production with audiences.”

Mayli McCann added: "I’m beyond excited to bring Daisy Buchanan to life in this stunning production at the London Coliseum. She’s such a complex, captivating character, and I can’t wait to dive into her world and share this timeless story with audiences in the heart of the West End."

The creative team on the production features a book by Kait Kerrigan, music and lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Jason Howland, costume design by Linda Cho, choreography by Dominique Kelley, scenic and projection design by Paul Tate de Poo III. The production will be directed by Marc Bruni.

The remainder of the creative team is completed by sound designer Brian Ronan, lighting designer Cory Pattak, and hair and wig designers Charles G. LaPointe and Rachael Geier. Arrangements are by Jason Howland, the music producer is Billy Jay Stein, and orchestrations are by Jason Howland and Kim Scharnberg.

Further casting will be announced in due course.
