It seemed for a while as if someone had actually put a spell on Hex at the National Theatre back in 2021, as performances were delayed to to the Covid-19 pandemic. Fast forward to a year later however, and Hex finally returns to the National Theatre with a brand new cast to begin previews at the Olivier Theatre on November 26th, ahead of an official opening night on December 6th, and performances due to run January 14th, 2023. The plot of Hex is based on the classic fairytale, Sleeping Beauty, and follows a fairy who is given the task of helping the princess to sleep. The spell quickly becomes a curse though and the fairy realises that she must fix her wrongdoing and sets out to make things right.
Michael Elcock will reprise the role of Bert from last year and is joined by a talented cast including Lisa Lambe as Fairy, Rosie Graham as Princess Rose, and Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as Queenie.
The remainder of the cast of Hex is made up of Riley Woodford, Zayne Ahmed, Olivia Saunders, Mark Oxtoby, Sabrina Aloueche, Neïma Naouri, Marc Akinfolarin, Kalisha Johnson, Christopher Akrill, Sonya Cullingford, Ben Goffe, Chris Jenkins, Amanda Lindgren, Michael Matus, Kody Mortimer, Aharon Rayner, Sasha Shadid and Rumi Sutton.
The original concept of Hex was created by Katrina Lindsay and Rufus Norris who also directs Tanya Ronder’s original musical, which features lyrics and music by Jim Fortune and Norris.
The wider creative team behind Hex features sound design by Simon Baker, set and costume design by Katrina Lindsay, choreography by Jade Hackett, and lighting design by Paul Anderson.
