George Gershwin's classic musical, Crazy For You is set to transfer from the Chichester Festival Theatre into the West End at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in 2023 for a limited 30-week season of performances from June 24th, with an official opening night scheduled for July 3rd.
The plot of the musical Crazy For You follows the fortunes of Bobby Child as he attempts to balance his dreams of showbusiness along with his mother’s wishes. Begrudgingly, Bobby heads to Deadrock, Nevada, where he meets and falls in love with the daughter of a theatre owner which leads to Bobby putting on a show with the New York Follies in an attempt to both save the theatre and bring some glamour to the western state.
Crazy For You has a book by Ken Ludwig and features music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, with timeless songs including “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” “Someone To Watch Over Me,” and “I Got Rhythm.”
Crazy For You will transfer from the Chichester Festival Theatre which featured a cast including Charlie Stemp in the role of Bobby, Matthew Craig as Lank Hawkins, Carly Anderson as Polly, and Tom Edden as Bela Zangler.
The production is both directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, and premiered in Chichester earlier this year. Stroman also won a Tony Award in 1992 for choreographing a Crazy For You Broadway production.
The new London production will also feature sound design by Kai Harada, costume design by William Ivey Long, set design by Beowulf Boritt, and lighting design by Ken Billington.
