Zachary Quinto is set to make his West End debut in James Graham's play Best of Enemies this autumn. The Emmy-nominated actor will star in the two-time Olivier-nominated play as it makes the transfer from the Young Vic into the Noël Coward Theatre for a limited 14 week season. Previews will begin from November 14th with an official opening night scheduled for November 28th.
Quinto will take on the role of Gore Vidal in Best of Enemies. His previous stage credits include include 'Angels in America', 'The Glass Menagerie', and 'The Boys in the Band' on Broadway along with parts in TV shows such as 'American Horror Story' and 'Heroes'
Speaking of the forthcoming West End appointment, Quinto commented, “Best of Enemies harkens back to a vital time - when genuine discourse was possible from even the most opposite ends of the ideological spectrum. My hope is that such discourse may be once again rekindled in response to the work itself”.
Reprising the role of William F. Buckley Jr. from the Young Vic production will be David Harewood. The remainder of the cast of the play will consist of Tom Godwin, Saaj Raja, Deborah Alli, Kevin McMonagle, Clare Foster, David Boyle, John Hodgkinson, Lincoln Conway, Emilio Doorgasingh, Vivienne Ekwulugo, Jamie Hogarth, Syrus Lowe, and Sam Otto.
Best Of Enemies is based on Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville's 2015 documentary and dramatises conversations between liberal writer Gore Vidal and conservative intellectual William F Buckley Jr during the 1968 U.S Presidential Election which led to the opening up of a new path in American politics as their beliefs became challenged — political TV debates.
Jeremy Herrin now directs James Graham’s Best of Enemies which premiered in London at the Young Vic in 2021. The West End production will feature sound design by Tom Gibbons, design by Bunyn Christie, and lighting design by Jack Knowles.
Best of Enemies will begin performances at the Noel Coward Theatre from November 14th, 2022.
