'Your Lie In April' To Close Early In The West End

Latest West End News

Manga musical Your Lie in April has revealed that it is to close early in the West End. The production was due to run until September 21st, but performances will now finish at the Harold Pinter Theatre on August 11th.

The show tells the story of a piano prodigy who, following the death of his mother, loses his ability to play, but rediscovers his gift through a new friendship.

Producers commented on the early closure stating: “We are proud to have made history by bringing the first manga musical to the West End and to have given the opportunity for the first 100 percent Asian and Southeast Asian cast to perform in a West End musical. Our journey from two sold-out concerts at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to a full West End production at The Harold Pinter Theatre (hosting its first musical since 2016) turned around in a matter of weeks due to popular demand. We are immensely proud of the show and the amazing work of the creative team, cast, crew, and musicians – and we thank them for their dedication and incredible work. It is particularly exciting to us how many people made Your Lie in April their first-ever West End musical experience. And to our audiences who dressed the part and cheered them on, we say Bravo!”

Your Lie in April features music by Frank Wildhorn, with lyrics by Tracy Miller and Carly Robyn Green, music arrangement and orchestration by Jason Howland, English book by Rinne B Groff, and original book by Riko Sakaguchi.

The show is led by Zheng Xi Yong as Kosei Arima, with Mia Kobayashi making her professional debut as Kaori Miyazono. Rachel Clare Chan stars as Tsubaki Sawabe, and Dean John-Wilson as Ryota Watari, who all featured in the concert version of the show earlier in 2024.

They are joined by Chris Fung, Ernest Stroud, Ericka Posadas, JoJo Meredith, Eu Jin Hwang, Gracie Lai, Imogen Law Hing Choy, Daniel Nardone, Lucy Park, and Ria Tanaka.

The creative team behind the show features director and choreographer Nick Winston, co-director Jordan Murphy, musical director and conductor Chris Poon, lighting designer Rory Beaton, costume designer Kimie Nakano, musical supervisor Katy Richardson, set designer Justin Williams, sound designers Rob Bettle and Adam Fisher, and video designer Dan Light.

The Harold Pinter Theatre is a medium size West End theatre which has a capacity of 799 seats and four levels of seating.

The venue has several different price bands and a variety of views are available in the auditorium due to restrictions from support pillars that are dotted throughout the seating area so studying the seating plan in detail before purchase is recommended. The best seats in the theatre are in the centre of the Stalls section, however, the overhang from the Dress Circle can affect the view towards the rear of this section which should be noted. Great views of the stage are also available from the second row of the Dress Circle for those who prefer to view the stage looking down from an elevated position.

There is value to be found within the theatre from studying the cut-off points of the many different price bands with many seats often being discounted due to the slightly restricted views. These seats can often be worth the risk for patrons looking for cheap tickets to Your Lie In April, however, the Balcony can also be a good bet but has a distant, but clear, view and is ideal for patrons looking for discount tickets or lastminute shows in London.
