St Paul's Covent Garden is an Anglican Christian church situated in the very heart of Covent Garden in London.
Widely known as The Actors Church, St Paul's Covent Garden's connection with the theatre dates back to 1662 with the establishment of the nearby Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and in 1723, became further assured with the opening of the Covent Garden Theatre (which later became The Royal Opera House). The two theatres became the starting place for what is now known as ‘the west end’ theatre, and both were, and still remain, in our Parish.
There are memorials in the church dedicated to many famous theatrical personalities, including Noel Coward, Charlie Chaplin, Ivor Novello, Gracie Fields, Vivien Leigh, Barbara Windsor, Richard Beckinsale, and Diana Rigg.
The church continues its theatrical traditions by hosting the Iris Theatre, an in-house professional theatre company that stages productions throughout the year and also productions and events from other companies and theatrical events such as West End Flea Market and West End Bake Off.
