The Hampstead Theatre first opened its doors in 1959 and is now a hub for new productions and writing. The theatre boasts 325 seats and regularly hosts world-renowned actors.
Much later, in 2003, a new and purpose-built Hampstead Theatre opened with two performance venues. It is now a home for new writing, creative talent, and groundbreaking new productions.
In 1960, Harold Pinter's play The Dumb Waiter premiered at the Hampstead Theatre. Other notable writers whose works have premiered at the venue include Mike Leigh, Debbie Tucker Green, Michael Frayn, and Roy Williams.
Although the Hampstead Theatre has a seating capacity of just 325, the intimate theatre has attracted some of the world's greatest stars. Actors including Tamsin Greig, John Malkovich, Jude Law, Felicity Kendal have appeared in shows at the Hampstead Theatre, and productions from the venue have also transferred to the West End, including The Moderate Soprano and Caroline, or Change.
