The Dorfman Theatre (formerly named, the Cottesloe Theatre) is the most flexible of the auditoriums at the National Theatre. Following redevelopment, the rectangular room can hold up to 450 people with more comfortable seating, better sight lines, and enlarged foyer spaces. The new flexible seating system in the pit can be raised and lowered in minutes to provide either a steep or shallow rake format, or seats can be folded away to become a flat floor.
There are two levels on three sides of the room, the circle and gallery, which look down on the pit. Performances can be staged either in a conventional format at one end; in “traverse”, lengthways, across the space; or in the round. All sections are open to change except the circle and gallery.
The flexibility of the staging means that the seating is different for each production. If you have concerns regarding the suitability of a particular seat and whether it may have a restriction, please contact the Box Office on 020 7452 3000.
The entrance to The Dorfman Theatre is located on the east side of the National Theatre, opposite the IBM building, on Stage Door Avenue.
