Donmar Warehouse

After the venue was acquired by the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Donmar Warehouse opened on 18th July 1977 as a thrust theatre, meaning that the actors perform to the audience on three sides.

The theatre was used as a testing ground for RSC productions and Stratford-upon-Avon transfers.

In 1992, The Donmar became an independent producing house, and Sam Mendes took over as artistic director, producing notable shows such as Cabaret in 1993, starring Jane Horrocks and Alan Cumming, as well as several memorable revivals of The Glass Menagerie, Into the Woods and Endgame. Michael Grandage took over as the artistic director of the Donmar in 2002.

In 2021, Wessex Grove, a UK partnered with the Donmar Warehouse to develop new shows and promote the theatre’s work to a wider audience.
