About The Almeida Theatre
There has been a building has been on the site of the Almeida Theatre since 1837. What began as a collection of reading rooms and a lecture hall has now become the Almeida Theatre which opened in 1980 and has been listed by English Heritage as a Grade II building.
The Almeida Theatre has a curved back wall just behind the stage that has the effect of making the audience feel extremely close to the stage and almost results in a staging area that is as large as the auditorium is small.
The auditorium is air-cooled during the summer months and can seat 325 people, and is split over 2 levels, the circle upstairs, and the stalls on the ground floor that offer comfortable bench-style seating with ample legroom.
