David Threlfall and Catherine Tate are to star at The Ambassadors Theatre in The Enfield Haunting from November 30th to March 2nd, 2024.
This play is based on the true story of the Hodgson family, who, in 1977 began experiencing a series of paranormal events in their North London house.
Tate takes on the role of single mother Peggy Hodgson, who is trying to protect herself and her three children from a poltergeist.
In a statement about the production, the actress commented: “I’m thrilled to be part of The Enfield Haunting and can’t wait to start working with the first-class creative team and the brilliant David Threlfall.”
Threlfall will play Maurice Grosse, a ghost hunter, who is determined to help the Hodgson family, but as the events continue and escalate, he realises that he might be slightly out of his depth.
Paul Unwin's paranormal play is based on first-hand accounts from one of the ghost hunters involved in the incident in Enfield house in 1977.
The writer commented on the production, "Before Guy Lyon Playfair, the poltergeist expert died in 2018, I spent a long afternoon with him in his basement flat in Earls Court. He and Maurice Grosse had spent months with the Hodgson family trying to protect them, but also make sense of what was going on. What Guy told me was terrifying. So much of what appears to have happened was impossible to fake and yet at the centre of the whole thing were real people trying to make sense of their lives"
Catherine Tate is currently starring in the BBC TV series 'Queen of Oz'. The renowned actress on both stage and screen has also had major roles in 'The Catherine Tate Show', 'Doctor Who', 'The Office', and 'Big School'.
David Threlfall starred as Frank Gallagher in the hit TV series 'Shameless', is an Associate Artist of the RSC, and was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in Martin McDonagh's play, 'The Hangman' last year.
Angus Jackson directs this paranormal production that will first showcase at the Brighton Theatre Royal and then the Richmond Theatre before opening in the West End.
Further casting and creatives will be announced at a later date.
Booking & Theatre Info For The Enfield Haunting
The Ambassadors Theatre is a small West End venue with a capacity of 410 seats on two levels. Premium seats in the theatre are located in the front two rows of the Circle, and the centre of the Stalls with great views between seats 6-12 in rows D-G.
Due to the intimacy of the venue, bargain hunters can get great value from the back row of the Circle which offers a great view of the stage. The overhang from the Circle does encroach on the rear seats in the Stalls, meaning the back rows do have a slightly restricted view which should reflect in the price of the ticket.
Patrons on a budget can find good value for tickets to The Enfield Haunting in the last four rows of the Circle from H to L which are often discounted but still offer a great view of the stage and have good legroom.
