The full cast has been announced for The Brightening Air, Conor McPherson’s new play which will open at the Old Vic in London on 10th April. McPherson also directs the production.
Set in 1980s Ireland, The Brightening Air follows the fortunes of Dermot as he returns to his family in County Sligo with hidden ambitions.
Chris O’Dowd takes on the role of Dermot, while Brian Gleeson and Rosie Sheehy play his siblings. The cast is completed by Hannah Morrish, Derbhle Crotty, Eimhin Fitzgerald Doherty, Aisling Kearns, and Seán McGinley, who are joined by understudies Joseph McCarthy, Callum Cronin, Ella Maria Carmen, and Amy Vicary-Smith.
The play will mark McPherson's first return to the Old Vic since 2017 and Girl from the North Country, which subsequently transferred into the West End and to Broadway.
The wider creative team behind the production will feature set and costume by Rae Smith, movement and intimacy by Lucy Hind, sound by Gregory Clarke, voice by Charlie Hughes-D'Aeth, and lighting by Mark Henderson.

The Old Vic Theatre is a medium size venue located on The Cut close to Waterloo Station which has three levels of seating and a capacity of 1364 seats.
The auditorium is built in a semi-circle and offers a variety of views of the stage which can be extended to accommodate the production. Different price bands are available within the venue depending on where you choose to sit.
Premium seats and the best overall views of the stage with no restrictions are found in the centre of rows E-L, of the Stalls section and also in rows A-D of the Dress Circle which offers a great vantage point for those who prefer an elevated and panoramic view of the stage.
Good value for tickets to The Brightening Air can be found from sitting in the back two “restricted view” rows of the Stalls which provide a remarkably clear view of the stage without any obstructions. The only negative with these seats is that the stage is a little far away, but they benefit from having plenty of legroom! Alternatively, the Lilian Baylis Circle on the third level is also a good option to secure potential bargains or lastminute tickets for those on a budget.
