To Sir, With Love Tickets - London
Making a return to the story that launched her meteoric global career in the beloved 1967 film opposite Sidney Poitier, British actress, music icon, and Grammy nominee Lulu joins the cast of this newly reimagined stage adaptation of E.R. Braithwaite’s powerful memoir at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, featuring lyrics and music by Kara DioGuardi and John Farrar, and directed by Sheldon Epps.
The story was immortalized by Poitier’s captivating performance in the iconic cinematic masterpiece, but, the autobiographical tale of To Sir, With Love is every bit as relevant today as it was then. Rick Braithwaite is not just a former RAF fighter pilot and Cambridge-educated engineer; he’s a man fighting against societal prejudices at every turn. He is a man who refuses to bow to adversity and engages his students, not just as troublesome youths but as emerging young adults who need to be taught to navigate their way a world where they’ll rise or fall on their own merits. Using a delicate balance of grace and grit, he prepares them for more than exams; he prepares them for the complexities of life.
The show delves into topics of class, race, resilience, and the power of respect and has an exciting and original score by DioGuardi and Farrar, alongside the legendary title song To Sir, with Love by Don Black and Mark London.
