This Kind of Black (Requiem for Black Boys) Tickets - London

Manchester, 1990's, Moss Side. A place where the media portrays people through poverty, gangs, and the lens of 'Gunchester'.

This Kind of Black (Requiem for Black Boys) is a powerful new stage show at Brixton House from musician and poet Reece Williams. It’s about growing up in Moss Side in the 90s, never more than a stone’s throw from violence and conflict. It celebrates a community bonded together by warmth, prayers, and humour while mourning another tragic loss of young life. It’s about the fusion of class and race when the national media portrays you solely through the narrow lens of poverty, ‘Gunchester,’ and gangs.

Above all, This Kind of Black (Requiem for Black Boys) explores the complex relationship between a gangland father and his son and the devastating impact of trauma on the mental health of young Black boys across the generational divide. The show features stunning projected images, powerful performances, plenty of humour, and a brilliant 90's inspired soundtrack inspired.
