In 1973, Pete Townshend wrote Quadrophenia. It quickly became an iconic and multi-million-selling album after being recorded by The Who – defining a generation, and in 1979, provided the inspiration for the cult classic movie of the same name.
Now Quadrophenia is back – and this time, it arrives as an explosive dance production at Sadler's Wells with a cast of exceptional dancers to introduce a new audience to the story of troubled mod Jimmy while remaining true in spirit to the much-loved original.
Quadrophenia, a Mod Ballet revives the mythology of the 1960s – sharp suits, Vespas, soul music, and parkas and highlights its themes of rebellion, lost youth, the search for belonging, and hunger for social change that still resonate today.
The production features Rachel Fuller's rich, orchestral version of the classic album, first heard in a concert version at The Royal Albert Hall and recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Quadrophenia, a Mod Ballet is directed by Rob Ashford and features expert choreography from Paul Roberts along with some of the UK’s finest creative talent from the worlds of dance, music, theatre, and film.
The sheer power of dance brings a whole new dimension to the emotion and raw energy of one of Britain's most iconic rock albums.
