The Royal Opera House will stage La Traviata for a limited season from September 7th - 21st, 2024.
The celebrated Parisian courtesan Violetta is introduced to Alfredo Germont at one of her lavish parties. Following a short period of illness, she has just returned to the city and is touched by Alfredo’s concern. The two quickly fall head-over-heels in love, and Alfredo asks Violetta to join him and live in the countryside. Although she is initially hesitant to leave her life of luxury and freedom behind, she agrees and follows her heart.
After three months of countryside living with Alfredo, Violetta receives a visit from his father, Giorgio Germont, who attempts to persuade her to abandon Alfredo so she can save the Germont family from scandal. Although she is heartbroken at the thought of leaving her beloved Alfredo, Violetta eventually agrees to go. Alfredo follows Violetta to Paris rather than returning to his family home. But when he finds her with Baron Douphol, her former protector, tensions erupt. With Violetta still in increasingly fragile health, will Alfredo be able to make amends, or is he too late?
