Jonathan Miller’s production of La bohème, set in 1930’s Paris, now returns to the ENO at the London Coliseum by popular demand. The iconic production will carry audiences away with its intensity, and whether it is your first visit or your fifth, you’ll be swept away in a glorious evening full of heartbreak and hope, lit up by Puccini’s exquisite music.
La bohème is a beautifully simple love story that continues to ring as true now as 130 years ago. Young Parisians Mimì and Rodolfo meet and fall in love. The couple live a simple, bohemian life. They’re poor – but want for nothing, as their love is enough to sustain them, or so they think. But as time goes on, Mimì grows sick, and poverty and illness begin to test their passion – and eventually Rodolfo is forced to make a terrible choice.
ENO favourite and former Harewood artist, Nadine Benjamin will star as Mimì alongside the internationally renowned tenor Joshua Blue, who makes his debut at the ENO, taking on the role of Rodolfo. Current Harewood artist Patrick Alexander Keefe will play Schaunard.
Crispin Lord directs the revival with Italian pianist-conductor, Clelia Cafiero conducting, who also makes her UK Opera and ENO debut.
