Gwenda’s Garage: The Musical Tickets - Southwark Playhouse Borough

Gwenda’s Garage: The Musical Tickets - London

Attempting to dismantle the patriarchy, one spark plug at a time.

Sheffield, 1980s. Thatcher’s Britain: politics, protest, passion… a time when anything might happen, and it usually does.

Something radical is happening in a small industrial unit. Three female mechanics are defying the odds and opening up their own garage, aptly named after the pioneering racing driver Gwenda Stewart. But this is a garage that is about way more than cars.

Gwenda’s Garage: The Musical is an exuberant call to arms at the Southwark Playhouse Borough, fuelled by feminism, fun, friendship, but above all, a powerful and affirming belief in the strength of collective action.

This riotous and inspiring story is an enthralling tale of women fighting homophobia, everyday sexism, and Section 28. Based on true events

Gwenda’s Garage was an actual place: a car repair workshop run by lesbians in 1980s Sheffield. The musical draws on interviews with both customers, members of Gwenda’s Garage, and feminist campaigners, to capture the hidden stories of those who empowered and trained future generations in South Yorkshire and beyond.
