Toby Jones, Meera Syal, Kathryn Hunter, Fiona Shaw, and Rebecca Lucy Taylor will be the very first actors to appear in the world premiere of Echo (Every Cold Hearted Oxygen) which sees Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour and director Omar Elerian push the boundaries of Soleimanpour’s signature unrehearsed cold reads to the next level at the Royal Court Theatre this July.
In every show, a new performer will take to the stage without having a clue of what will be asked of them. Unrehearsed and totally unprepared, the script guides them as they journey their way through the playwright's story, connected live from his Berlin flat. Or is he? Can we ever really know where or where we are?
ECHO asks its audience to confront how it feels like to be an immigrant both in time and in space. Using a blend of technology along with some of the oldest tricks in the book, ECHO is a new experiment in concept touring in an age of increasing climate crisis: a magical and ambitious, uncompromising production where no one travels anywhere yet all can be present.
