‘Eternity was in our lips and eyes’ Act I, scene 3
For the first time in a decade, Shakespeare’s epic story of duty, love, and power, Antony and Cleopatra will unravel at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in a bilingual and ground-breaking production using both Spoken English and British Sign Language.
The Roman Empire is a complex and militant organisation governed by three men. The ancient kingdom of Egypt is ruled by a woman.
Despite their cultures being poles apart, Roman general Antony falls for the charms of Egyptian queen Cleopatra and neglects his responsibilities to the disdain of his fellow ruler Octavius Caesar.
Tensions between their countries intensify, as do passions, and before long, decisions are made that could bring devastating consequences for not only each other but for the very foundations of their two societies.
Blanche McIntyre directs Shakespeare’s blockbusting clash of cultures, with Charlotte Arrowsmith as Associate Director and Nadia Nadarajah as Cleopatra.
