Levi is unravelling in his dressing room, almost ready to end it all just as his Broadway show is about to be recorded for the archives. His sponsor, Ben, bursts into the room, and through their confrontation, a little bit of theatrical magic occurs: the room splits wide open, and out steps Levi's younger and brasher self. As past collides with present, a theatrical self-reckoning occurs, as the two versions of Levi bring past memories back to life and the three men morph into dozens of characters accompanied by a musical score ranging from tender ballads to gospel tambourine.
