After Sunday Tickets - London
‘Maybe that’s what cooking is, you know. Home in a pocket.’
Occupational therapist Naomi is desperate for her new Caribbean cooking group to succeed. Daniel, Ty, and Leroy all have personal reasons for joining the group, and it's not all about the food.
As they cautiously embrace the group, the three men begin to share recipes and take turns as head chef. After a while, the fragrant cooking smells start to transform the mood of the secure hospital around their kitchen, and memories of their lives outside - and home - begin to surface.
As the hospital’s Family Day approaches, the group is asked to cater for the event. When tensions threaten to boil over, and their newfound trust is tested to the limit as they attempt to break down past cycles, Naomi is forced to consider whether this group is able to provide the recipe for change she hoped for.
After Sunday is Sophia Griffin's absorbing debut play, which takes a searing look at four people grappling with the realities of a dehumanising system. Belgrade Theatre Artistic Director Corey Campbell directs this world premiere at the Bush Theatre which features live cooking on stage.
