English Kings don’t kill their wives, right?
1536, Tudor England.
A field somewhere in Essex.
Three young women rush to their childhood meeting place, all thirsty to hear the gossip from London.
Word is spreading of a fiery clash between King Henry VIII and his Queen, Anne Boleyn. And a little closer to home, another rumour begins to ignite.
As the women start to witness echoes of the royal drama touching their own rural lives, a wave of violence begins to threaten their very existence, and they realise that the royal scandal could now cost them everything.
1536 is produced in the West End at the Ambassadors Theatre by Sonia Friedman Productions, the Almeida Theatre, and Annapurna Theatre.
