The Mean Girls musical is gearing up to make its West End premiere in June 2024 at the Savoy Theatre. Exact performance dates will be announced in due course.
Following its hit run on Broadway from 2018-2020, Mean Girls now crosses the pond and will arrive in the UK for the first time. The musical is based on the 2004 Hollywood movie and focuses on Cady Heron, a home-schooled teenager who is attending high school for the first time.
Cady initially gets in with the 'Plastics' — a popular clique of kids consisting of gossipy Gretchen, airheaded Karen, and queen bee Regina — but drama ensues when she clashes with Regina and attempts to take her down.
Mean Girls features a book by Tina Fey, who also wrote the screenplay for the movie. Original music for the show is by composer Jeff Richmond and lyricist Nell Benjamin. Director/choreographer Casey Nicholaw rounds up the core creative team.
Casting for the London production of Mean Girls will be announced at a later date. The Broadway production of the show featured Erika Henningsen, Kate Rockwell, Taylor Louderman, and Ashley Park. The popular movie starred Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, Rachel McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried.
Theatre & Ticket Information For Mean Girls
The Savoy Theatre is a medium size West End theatre which has a capacity of 1132 seats over three levels of seating.
The Stalls section of the theatre sits below street level and offers excellent views of the stage however, due to an overhang from the higher tiers the rear of this section does have some restricted views so studying the seating plan before purchase is highly recommended. The Savoy is a very deep and narrow theatre and features several other obstructions due to safety rails which should also be taken into account before booking tickets. The mid-front section of the Stalls, just before the overhang starts offers the best overall views of the stage in the venue and these seats are priced accordingly. Panoramic views of the stage are available at the front of the Dress Circle which is ideal for large-scale musicals and as the stage is fairly deep, good views of the action are also available from the rear of the auditorium.
The Savoy Theatre offers 'Day Seats' for those looking to secure cheap Mean Girls tickets however, this will involve queuing at the theatre before 10 am. Good value can also be found in the back row of the Dress Circle, which has clear views of the stage, and also the Upper Circle which features largely unobstructed viewing despite being some distance from the action.
