Joy Wielkens to Star in 'Hadestown' at the Lyric Theatre
Dutch singer and actor Joy Wielkens will take over the role of Persephone from Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts in Hadestown at the Lyric Theatre in the West End from 20 January 2026. She will remain in the role through 8 March 2026.
Roberts will play her final show on 18 January 2026, with Wielkens joining the London production after performing the role in Amsterdam at the Royal Theatre Carré earlier this year. Her previous stage credits in the Netherlands include The Mountaintop, A Raisin in the Sun, Beneatha’s Place, Billie!, and Dear Winnie.
Wielkens joins Chris Jarman as Hades, Cedric Neal as Hermes, Desmonda Cathabel as Eurydice, and Dylan Wood as Orpheus. Allie Daniel, Melanie Bright, and Lauran Rae play the Fates; Michelle Andrews, Femi Akinfolarin, Sebastian Lim-Seet, Ollie Bingham, and Laura Delany play the Workers, with Juan Jackson, Lucinda Buckley, Lindo Shinda, Oisín Nolan-Power, and Jasmine Triadi as Swings.
Music, book, and lyrics writer Anaïs Mitchell has created a genre-defying musical by fusing pop, indie, blues, folk, and New Orleans-inspired jazz to intertwine two mythical love stories: King Hades and his wife Persephone, and Orpheus and Eurydice.
Hadestown is currently booking in London until 27 September 2026, and casting for performances from 10 March 2026 will be announced in due course.
