Initial casting has been announced for the forthcoming dark comedy play Cuckoo ahead of its summer premiere at the Royal Court Theatre.

The production will star Scouse actresses Michelle Butterly, Sue Jenkins, Emma Harrison, and Jodie McNee, and is set in the playwright's hometown of Birkenhead.

Cuckoo will be Wynne's 8th play at the Royal Court. "They’re dealing with financial insecurity, economic decline, all-pervasive technology, and the potential impact of climate change - amongst other things. I was interested in exploring how different generations discuss issues and how having opposing opinions has become much more fraught - even within close families."

The plot of Cuckoo focuses on a three-generation matriarchal family in Birkenhead, living under one roof together, and how they cope with the issues directly affecting their lives in an increasingly uncertain world.

Cuckoo is directed by Vicky Featherstone and will run from July 6th to August 19th at the Royal Court Theatre, before then transferring to the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool from 6th to 23rd September 2023.
