Mark Rosenblatt’s play Giant, starring Hollywood actor and Tony winner John Lithgow, is to transfer into the West End at the Harold Pinter Theatre in 2025 from 26th April 2025 – 2nd August following its hugely successful run at the Royal Court.
Giant is directed by Nicholas Hytner and designed by Bob Crowley. The play follows the acclaimed children's author Roald Dahl in the wake of a scandal caused by an explicitly antisemitic article throughout a single afternoon. Lithgow will reprise the role of Dahl.
Olivier Award winner Elliot Levey will also return as Tom Maschler.
Speaking about the forthcoming transfer, Mark Rosenblatt said: “Premiering GIANT, my first play, at the legendary Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs has been a wonderful, dizzying and life-changing experience. Had its journey ended there, it would have been plenty. But to have Nick Hytner's superlative production now transfer to the West End to be experienced by a wider audience is far beyond my every expectation."
John Lithgow also commented: “For over sixty years, the Royal Court Theatre has been the cradle of great new playwriting. Along with writer Mark Rosenblatt and director Nick Hytner, they have launched another remarkable new play. I am happy and proud to be a part of its first trip out into a wider world.”
Artistic Director of The Royal Court, David Byrne added: “Mark Rosenblatt’s GIANT is an astounding debut play brought brilliantly to life in Nicholas Hynter’s thrilling production. I am incredibly proud to have had GIANT as part of my first season at the Royal Court, with both Mark and Nick making their Royal Court debuts. With the exception of our famous Monday night rush seats, GIANT sold every available ticket for its premiere run at the Royal Court before its first preview. I am therefore delighted that it is transferring to the West End, led by the incomparable John Lithgow so that more audiences can get the pleasure of experiencing this gripping new play.”
The creative team behind the production features lighting design by Anna Watson and sound design by Alexandra Faye Braithwaite.
Further casting for the West End transfer of Giant is yet to be announced.

The Harold Pinter Theatre is a medium size West End theatre which has a capacity of 799 seats and four levels of seating.
The venue has several different price bands and a variety of views are available in the auditorium due to restrictions from support pillars that are dotted throughout the seating area so studying the seating plan in detail before purchase is recommended. The best seats in the theatre are in the centre of the Stalls section, however, the overhang from the Dress Circle can affect the view towards the rear of this section which should be noted. Great views of the stage are also available from the second row of the Dress Circle for those who prefer to view the stage looking down from an elevated position.
There is value to be found within the theatre from studying the cut-off points of the many different price bands with many seats often being discounted due to the slightly restricted views. These seats can often be worth the risk for patrons looking for cheap tickets to Giant, however, the Balcony can also be a good bet but has a distant, but clear, view and is ideal for patrons looking for discount tickets or lastminute shows in London.
