Daniel Fish's much lauded production of the classic musical Oklahoma!, which made its debut in London at the Young Vic back in April, is now set to transfer into the West End at Wyndham's Theatre in February 2023. Exact dates for the opening of the show will be announced in due course.
The much loved musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein's focusses on the farmgirl Laurey and the two men who are jockeying for her affections: Curly, the perfect cowboy, and the rank outsider Jud. As Laurey ponders her decision, her fellow townspeople also begin to show both their prejudices and their true sympathies. Oklahoma is known as a classic feelgood, and sunny story featuring famous songs such as "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" and "Oklahoma." This new production from Daniel Fish also brings the dark and sexy side of the story to the surface without changing the original script.
Before opening at the Young Vic in London, Fish's production of Oklahoma! played a successful season on Broadway winning two coveted Tony Awards including 'Best Revival of a Musical'.
Casting for the West End production of Oklahoma! has yet to be announced but will feature a creative team including costume designer Terese Wadden; lighting designer Scott Zielinski; projection designer Joshua Thorson; choreographer John Heginbotham; sound designer Drew Levy; scenic designers Lael Jellinek and Grace Laubacher; orchestrator, arranger co-music supervisor and additional vocal arranger Nathan Koci, and co-music supervisor Daniel Kluger.
Booking & Theatre Info For Oklahoma!
Oklahoma! will open at the Wyndham's Theatre in London in 2023. The Wyndham’s Theatre is a medium size theatre located next to Leicester Square tube station and has a capacity of 878 seats.
The venue has four levels of seating and generally good views are available throughout, Each level is both shallow and has raked seating, however, some of the seats at the ends of rows do feature minor restrictions.
Premium seats are located in the front of the Royal Circle, in the centre of rows B-F that have great views due to the high rake and offer completely unobstructed views of the stage. The front of the Stalls is also a good option for intimate plays, although due to the high stage, it can pay to sit more than three rows back.
Theatregoers on a budget looking to book last-minute or cheap Oklahoma tickets can find great value in both the Grand Circle and Balcony which both offer exceptionally clear, although distant, views of the stage. Other value can be found by studying the seating plan to exploit cut-off points in the price bands throughout the theatre and also by sitting towards the ends of rows or further back in the auditorium to bring prices down.
