Charlie Stemp To Star In 'Kiss Me Kate' At Barbican In 2024

Latest West End News

Olivier Award nominee Charlie Stemp and upcoming West End starlet Georgina Onuorah will both appear in the revival of Cole Porter's musical comedy Kiss Me, Kate which will showcase at the Barbican this summer. The duo will join the previously announced pairing of Tony Award winner Stephanie J. Block and Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar.

Stemp, whose previous stage credits include Crazy For You and Mary Poppins brings his tap-dancing skills into the role of the impulsive gambler Bill Calhoun/Lucentio. Onuorah will take the role of Lois Lane/Bianca.

Commenting on the appointment, Stemp said: “Kiss Me, Kate has always been a favourite show of mine, so to get the chance to return to the West End so soon in this title and specifically opposite Adrian Dunbar, Stephanie J. Block, and Georgina Onuorah is a dream come true.”

Onuorah added: “I am thrilled to be involved in this reimagined Kiss Me, Kate - with a Lois/Bianca that looks like me! Bart Sher is a remarkable director and I am so excited to get working on this beloved musical with this wonderful team.”

Kiss Me Kate is a classic musical comedy farce, directed by Bartlett Sher, and is a show within a show that follows a theatre company in its attempt to stage a production of William Shakespeare's play, The Taming of the Shrew.

Kiss Me, Kate will run for a limited 15-week season at the Barbican Theatre from 4th June – 14th September.

The Barbican Theatre is a medium size venue situated on Silk Street in the City of London and has a capacity of 1170 seats.

Seats throughout the auditorium have good legroom and offer excellent views of the action from comfortable seats with only a few minor overhang restrictions being found on all levels.

Premium seats in the theatre can be found in the centre section of the Stalls and Circle and offer a perfect view of the stage with rows F-J considered to be an excellent vantage point to view the action, but seats further forward are preferred if you want a more intimate experience.

For savvy patrons looking for last-minute bargains or on a budget, the least expensive seats can be found in the Gallery. Please be advised that these seats are quite high up though which can feel distant from the stage. Seats at the ends of rows in each section can also offer value and are generally cheaper, due to having side-angled views of the stage.
