Billy Elliot the Musical to Open at the Adelphi Theatre in 2027
Billy Elliot the Musical is set to return to the West End next year for a limited season at the Adelphi Theatre from 12 February – 31 July 2027.
For the first time in over a decade, the original production of the popular musical will return to London as part of its UK tour.
Commenting on the appointment, composer Elton John and Director Stephen Daldry said, “Creating Billy Elliot the Musical was one of the most joyous and inspiring moments of our careers, so to bring the show back for a UK tour and a season in the West End for the first time in over a decade is both incredibly emotional and exciting. It’s bold, it’s British, it’s full of heart, and the story feels more relevant than ever. We can’t wait for a whole new generation to experience it!”
The show, based on the successful 2000 movie, is set in a mining town in northern England during the 1984-85 miners’ strike and follows young Billy’s journey from the hard knocks of the boxing ring to ballet class after he discovers a burning passion for dance. Billy's passion and determination go on to alter the mindset and inspire both his family and community, changing his life forever.
The 5-time Olivier Award and 10-time Tony Award-winning musical is brought to life by director Stephen Daldry, writer Lee Hall (book and lyrics), with choreography by Peter Darling and music by Sir Elton John.
The remainder of the creative team features costume design by Nicky Gillibrand, wig and make-up design by Campbell Young, scenic design by Ian MacNeil, sound design by Paul Arditti, hair, lighting design by Rick Fisher, and musical supervision and orchestrations by Martin Koch.
Casting for the musical is yet to be announced.
