Shadowlands To Play London Season In 2026
Notting Hill, Downton Abbey, and Paddington star Hugh Bonneville returns to the West End in 2026 in William Nicholson’s play Shadowlands. Performances at the Aldwych Theatre will begin on 5 February 2026 and run through 9 May.
The play looks at the romantic relationship that blossomed between American poet Joy Davidman and author C.S. Lewis (The Chronicles of Narnia), Shadowlands is a powerful, uplifting journey that explores love and life.
Shadowlands will open in the West End following its run at Chichester Festival Theatre (in which Bonneville starred) in 2019. Rachel Kavanaugh will direct the production.
Bonneville commented: "Under Rachel Kavanaugh’s direction, I am thrilled to be revisiting William Nicholson’s beautiful play about love and loss as we bring the show to London audiences at The Aldwych. This theatre holds a special place in my heart as it’s where I saw my first Shakespeare, Peter Brook’s legendary RSC production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 1970.”
Further casting for Shadowlands is yet to be confirmed.
