'The Choir Of Man' To Close As Venue Undergoes Refurbishment

Latest West End News

Time has been called and it's last orders at the bar as The Choir of Man has announced that its final West End performances at the Arts Theatre will take place on 31st December, as the venue shuts its doors for planned redevelopment.

The show, which features nine performers who bring classic pop and rock songs to life in a pub environment, opened in October 2021 and has welcomed over 280,000 audience members through its doors to date.
The future of the show in London has not yet been announced.

Speaking on behalf of the producers, Nic Doodson commented on the closure, “We are so very proud of this smash hit show, and we want to thank our wonderfully loyal and passionate audiences, who come back night after night. We’ve broken box office records at the Arts Theatre, whilst keeping our ticket prices as low as possible. Our 5 brilliant casts have given out over 2,500 free pints of beer, and we want to raise a glass to them and to the extended Choir of Man family.

"Whilst we’re sad to say goodbye for now to our current West End home, we’re really excited for what comes next – watch this space!”

The current cast of The Choir Of Man features Sam Pope as ‘Joker’, Luke Conner Hall as ‘Romantic’, Rob Godfrey as ‘Beast’, Ifan Gwilym-Jones as ‘Maestro’, Tyler Orphé-Baker as ‘Pub Bore’, Shane McDaid as ‘Poet’, Kristian Morse as ‘Barman’, Tom Carter-Miles, Seán Keany, George Knapper as ‘Handyman’, and Bradley Walwyn as ‘Hardman’. David Shute and Paul Deegan are swings.

The on-stage band comprises Sam Tookey on bass, Jack Hartigan on guitar, Jacob Evans on drums, and Darius Luke Thompson on violin.

The Arts Theatre is a small West End theatre located on Great Newport Street, close to both Covent Garden and Leicester Square, and has a capacity of 353 seats and two levels of seating.

The theatre has comfortable seats and good overall sight lines pretty much throughout however there are slight restrictions in the seats at the ends of Row J, which situated are behind pillars, and also rows M and N, which are slightly affected by the overhang from the Circle. Seats in the slips on the sides of the Circle also feature a slight restriction due to the angle.

The best seats in the theatre are located in the centre of rows B-H in the Stalls section and in the Circle in the centre of rows B-C which give a clear line of sight to see all the action on stage.

Value can be found in the slips seats in the Circle Slips which are regularly discounted, due to the side-on view of the stage. These can offer excellent value for money, particularly for seats 8-14, which sit in front of seats 1-7 and are angled towards the stage. These are benches rather than seats, but they are cushioned with a backrest, and although some leaning will be required the entire stage can be seen at a discount price which will suit bargain hunters looking on a budget looking for lastminute shows or cheap tickets to The Choir Of Man.
