It was one of the most astonishing feats of spectacle, one of the most memorable and successful concerts ever performed, and it was all done for charity. Now, it's being brought to the West End stage. Just for One Day - The Live Aid Musical will open at the Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End in July 2025.
Live Aid was originally founded as an effort to provide relief aid to the ongoing famine in Ethiopia from 1983 to 1985. The Live Aid concert in 1985 brought icons of rock and roll - including Queen, Madonna, U2, and David Bowie - together in a simultaneous event staged at both John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia and Wembley Stadium in London and broadcast live globally to an estimated 1.9 billion viewers.
Just For One Day - The Live Aid Musical charts how this amazing event happened, with Craig Els portraying the producer and mastermind of the concert Bob Geldof. Following its record-breaking world premiere at The Old Vic, John O’Farrell's musical, directed by Luke Sheppard, will begin with a special gala performance on 13th July, to celebrate 40 years to the date since the original iconic concert.
The legacy of the original charity concert will continue with 10% from ticket sales being donated directly to The Band Aid Charitable Trust.
Performances of Just for One Day - The Live Aid Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre will continue until January 10th, 2026.

The Shaftesbury Theatre is a medium size West End theatre with a capacity of 1408 seats. The front section of the Stalls has a corridor through the middle splitting it into two sections, with further two aisles splitting the rear Stalls into a further three. Both the Royal and Grand Circles feature some seats which have some minor restrictions to the view causing the back of the stage to be slightly obscured so studying the seating plan before purchase is recommended.
Premium seats in the theatre are located in the middle of rows D-H in the centre of the Stalls which offers the best overall experience giving you a clear view of the entire stage. The centre of rows A-D of the Royal Circle also offers great views for patrons who prefer to view the stage from an elevated position
There is good lastminute value to be found in some sections of the rear of the Royal Circle, which despite being a fair distance from the stage still offers a clear view and bargain hunters looking for cheap Just For One Day tickets can also find value in the clear view seats 14-24 in the Grand Circle on the third level which are often reduced but may not suit people suffering from vertigo.
