Get ready to put your Sunday best clothes on because Imelda Staunton will star in the long-awaited revival of Hello, Dolly! at the London Palladium next year from July 6th, and run until September 14th.
Speaking in a statement about the appointment, Imelda Staunton commented: "I'm delighted that we are announcing our new production of Hello, Dolly!, which is a truly joyous show. I am also thrilled to be working again with Dominic Cooke and Michael Harrison. Dolly Levi is one of the great characters in musical theatre, and I can't wait to join the company in bringing our new production to the iconic London Palladium."
Directing the production will be Dominic Cooke, who will now reunite with Staunton after they previously worked together on the critically acclaimed National Theatre production of Follies.
Hello, Dolly! features a book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, whose timeless score includes "Before the Parade Passes By," "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," and "It Only Takes a Moment."
BAFTA and Multi-Olivier Award-winner Staunton takes on the role of the meddling socialite to matchmaker Dolly Levi, who ventures to Yonkers, New York, to try to find a match for the unmarried and miserly 'half-a-millionaire' Horace Vandergelder. Everything changes, however, when she decides that the next match that she makes should be for herself.
The 2024 production at the London Palladium will also star Andy Nyman as Horace Vandergelder, Jenna Russell, Tyrone Huntley, and Harry Hepple. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
